[ PRIVACY — UPDATED 19 September 2026 ]

What we know about you, and why.

The short version: we keep what we need to build and run your website, we do not sell it, and you can ask to see, fix or delete it at any time.

Who we are

WebTag designs, builds and manages websites for small businesses. We are based in Auckland, New Zealand, and this policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and what you can ask of us. It is written to meet the Privacy Act 2020.

If anything here is unclear, email info@webtag.co.nz and a person will answer.

What we collect, and why

When you contact us through this site we keep your name, email address, phone number if you give it, and your message, so we can reply and, if you go ahead, set up your project.

When you become a client you get a WebTag dashboard. To run it we hold your business details, the names and email addresses of the people you invite to sign in, your invoices and payment history, the enquiries your website receives, and the changes you make to your site.

If you sign in with Google or Microsoft, we receive only your name and email address from them. We never see your password, and we do not read your email, calendar or files.

Visitor counts on the websites we build are measured without cookies and without identifying anyone. We record the page viewed, the rough source of the visit and the device type, and nothing that points back to a person.

Enquiries sent through a website we built

When someone fills in a form on a client’s website, the message goes to that business. We pass it on and keep a copy in their dashboard so nothing is lost. In that case the business is responsible for the information and we handle it on their behalf.

Where it lives

Your information is stored with reputable hosting providers, currently Supabase for the dashboard database and Vercel for the websites, in data centres outside New Zealand. Both hold recognised security certifications and we only give them what is needed to run the service.

We send email through a transactional email provider, which sees the address and the content of each message we send you.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with anyone else except when the law requires it.

How long we keep it

For as long as you are a client, plus whatever the law requires afterwards. Invoices and payment records are kept for seven years under New Zealand tax law. An enquiry that never becomes a project is deleted within a year of the last contact.

If you stop being a client, tell us and we will remove your dashboard, your logins and your site content, keeping only the financial records we must.

Keeping it safe

Dashboard logins use a password of at least ten characters, or Google or Microsoft sign-in. Only people you invite can see your dashboard, and only the account owner can invite them. Everything travels over encrypted connections.

If we ever have a breach that could cause you harm, we will tell you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as the Act requires.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email info@webtag.co.nz and we will respond within twenty working days, usually much sooner.

If you are not happy with how we handle your information you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal information we will update this page and the date at the top. Substantive changes that affect clients are emailed to the account owner.
